You’ll then be ready to start your UWC journey!
The selection process begins with the annual opening of applications, usually mid-year. The first step in the selection process is submitting an application. This includes:
Once the submission period closes, a panel of experienced UWC volunteers conducts a review of all applications. This evaluation aims to assess candidates’ qualifications and their alignment with the scholarship criteria. Various elements such as academic performance, participation in extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation are carefully considered. Decisions regarding progression to the next stages are communicated in November, marking the end of this initial phase of the selection process.
Following the initial review, selected candidates move on to the second stage, which takes place in November and December. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in a multi-step selection process, which typically includes:
Group activities provide candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate skills such as teamwork, leadership, and communication. Individual interviews allow for a deeper exploration of their motivations, aspirations, and personal qualities. These interactions play a crucial role in further assessing candidates’ suitability for the available scholarships and their potential to contribute positively to the UWC community.
After completing the group activities and interviews, selected candidates proceed to the third stage. This involves a detailed financial assessment to determine each candidate’s needs and eligibility for financial support.
This is followed by an in-depth review period lasting approximately one month. During this time, the selection committee carefully examines all aspects of the candidates’ profiles and deliberates on their suitability for the available scholarships.
Candidates who successfully pass all stages of the selection process move on to the nomination phase, where their applications are submitted to the respective colleges. Although institutions typically accept candidates recommended by national committees, they reserve the right to make the final decision on each application and may, in some cases, decline admission after reviewing the documents.
Successful applicants will:
The final stage of the selection process culminates in the college’s admission decision, based on the outcomes and recommendations from the previous stages. Once all evaluations and deliberations are complete, the national committee informs candidates of their acceptance or rejection into the scholarship programme.
This final decision marks the conclusion of the selection process and, for successful candidates, the beginning of a transformative educational journey. It also represents the culmination of a rigorous and thorough process designed to identify and nominate candidates who best align with UWC’s mission and values.
